Veteran starter Noah Syndergaard is back in action.
The Los Angeles Angels traded the 29-year-old to the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday for Mitch Moniak and outfield rookie Jadir Sanchez, The Athletic reported. Jason Stark. He signed a one-year deal with Los Angeles this offseason after spending the first seven years of his career with the New York Mets.
Pitching for the first full season since 2019, Syndegard hasn’t been as dominant as he used to be. The 2016 All-Star is 5-8 with a 3.83 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 80 innings.
From 2015 to 2018, “Thor” was 6-foot-6 with a 3.30 ERA for four straight seasons, and he had more than 200 strikeouts twice in his career.
The Angels have struggled across the board this season, going 43-59.
Maybe a change of scenery will help Syndergard get back in shape. Philadelphia is adding a seasoned team to its rotation as it tries to keep up with the playoffs.
Having hitters who backed Syndegard like Phillies stars Kyle Schwaber and Nick Castellanos should help him do better in his new home, and he will be joined by Zach Wheeler. and a rotation led by Aaron Nora.
It was the second trade between the two teams on Tuesday as the Phillies also got Brandon Marsh in exchange for prospect Logan O’Hoppe.
