Speaking on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the one-year anniversary of the withdrawal from Afghanistan was “an opportunity to look at how we save lives” through “completely unprecedented” “Bring 124,000 Afghans out of the country in two weeks,” and “We are now on a stronger strategic footing because that war is over.”
Co-host Brian Kilmed asked: “It’s been a year since we pulled out of Afghanistan. In your opinion, was that the worst military disaster of your life?”
Kirby replied, “No. I wouldn’t say that at all. I think this month we need to look and remember yes, of course, not only during the evacuation, but during the 20-year war. I have one too. Friends were lost there. So, I mean, it’s personal to me. But I also think it’s an opportunity to see the lives we’ve saved, Brian, 124,000 Afghans from 124,000 Afghans in two weeks The country has brought it out like never before in military history, nothing like it, completely unprecedented. But also because the war is over, we are now on a stronger strategic footing.”
