Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay have submitted a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup.
Uruguay, which hosted the event’s first championship in 1930, said they wanted to take home the World Cup as they celebrated their centenary.
“It’s a continental dream,” said CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez.
Spain and Portugal also announced Bid to be co-host.
Uruguay beat Argentina in the final to win the inaugural World Cup in 1930, and Dominguez spoke at the site of that victory, Montevideo’s Centenario Stadium.
“There will be more World Cups, but the Cup is only 100 once and it needs to go home,” Dominguez added.
Chile hosted the World Cup in 1962, while the World Cup was held in Argentina in 1978.
Ignacio Alonso, president of the Uruguayan Football Federation, said: “After 100 years, it is right to host the World Cup where it all started.”
The 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar, while Canada, Mexico and the United States will co-host in 2026.
FIFA plans to select the 2030 hosts in 2024.
The Football Associations of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland agreed in February do not bid World Cup 2030, and focus instead on co-hosting Euro 2028.
