Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung and others are gearing up for a busy fall filled with many new gadget releases.

It’s like clockwork. From August to November, big tech companies unveil their latest products, such as phones, watches, and even robots and flying safety drones, in preparation for the holiday shopping spree.

Samsung kicks off next week, Aug. 10, when it announces new folding phones, giving it a chance to woo consumers ahead of Apple’s September iPhone event. New products at Apple’s fall event have a direct impact on the company’s balance sheet. The holiday quarter is usually Apple’s biggest quarter. For example, it reported record revenue for the three months ended Dec. 25 last year.

At the same time, Google has promised to launch its next phone with the new chip this fall, as well as its first Apple Watch competitor. And don’t forget Amazon: it usually unveils new Echos, Fire TV products, and sometimes surprises, like last year’s Astro Robot, at an event that’s held sometime between September and November.

There are many, so here’s an overview of what to expect.

Samsung Galaxy Z Folding 2

This is the desired result: Samsung will debut The next generation of foldable smartphones — The trailer has confirmed — Includes Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Customers can already pre-order one of the new smartphones, although they have not yet been announced. Some of the main complaints surrounding foldable phones are the price of the high-end Galaxy Z Fold model and the obvious seams that interrupt the phone’s display. Any price drops or upgrades to make the fold less noticeable will be noteworthy. Samsung typically releases new earbuds, tablets and smartwatches to compete with Apple’s iPad, AirPods and Apple Watch.

Here’s what it launched last August: Last year, Samsung launched the $1,799 Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the $1,000 Galaxy Z Flip 3. It also announced the Galaxy Buds 2 earphones and Galaxy Watch 4.

Apple reportedly plans to launch four iPhone 14s this year Bloomberg, which means we can expect some new features like always-on display on the high-end Pro models. The same report said that Apple may ditch the 5.4-inch iPhone mini in favor of a larger, more affordable 6.7-inch iPhone. This suggests that Apple will launch the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 with a larger screen, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

According to Bloomberg, Apple will also introduce three new Apple Watch variants, including a new entry-level SE model, a standard Series 8, and a ruggedized version aimed at extreme sports. AirPods Pro earbuds are about to get an update, but there’s still Talking about Apple’s first mixed reality headsetbut those may also come later.

Still, Apple’s mixed reality headset will mark the company’s first major product launch since the Apple Watch launched in 2015. According to Bloomberg, the headset will combine elements of virtual and augmented reality, allowing users to put digital content on top of the real world. Apple has been hard at work developing VR content, hiring Jon Favreau to develop video content for its headset, The New York Times said in June.

Products launched last September: Last year, Apple unveiled the new iPad and iPad mini, Apple Watch Series 7, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 Pro Max at its fall product launch.

Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro

While Google’s hardware business doesn’t make much money, it will launch its first smartwatch and the Google Pixel 7 as it continues to work to build momentum in the hardware market.

This is the desired result: Google has been releasing gadgets in October for years. Back at the I/O event in May, Google made fun of what’s on the deck. Its latest phone, the Pixel 7, will feature a second-generation Tensor processor and a glass design with a new aluminum camera bar. The larger Pixel 7 Pro model will have a triple-lens camera. But we don’t know much about what else is new in the phone, like the price, or the capabilities of the camera and the new chip, so expect to hear all about that.

Google also teased its Pixel Watch, the company’s first smartwatch that’s due to launch this fall. Google said in a tweet on May 11 that the watch “has the best of Google, plus the Fitbit health and fitness experience.” So expect some sort of software pairing that offers new fitness and wellness features.

We’re likely to see an update to at least one of the Google Nest products. Google’s most recent FCC filing describes the product they’ve developed as a “wireless device” with a connection port similar to current Nest devices, According to 9to5GoogleIt hasn’t released a new Nest thermostat or speakers since 2020, so they’re probably already on deck.

Content launched last year: Last August, Google released new Nest cameras and doorbells. Then, in October, Google revealed all the details of its Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones. These are the first smartphones to run on Google’s Tensor chips instead of Qualcomm’s processors.

Amazon Echo Show 15

Here’s what to expect: Amazon traditionally holds its hardware events sometime in the fall, when it announces a slew of gadgets, from new Echos (last year’s Echo Show 15 pictured above) to glasses with Alexa built-in and more.

The fourth-generation Echo speaker launched in October 2020, so unless Amazon keeps experimenting with new form factors, it should get an update. Likewise, Amazon typically announces updates to its Fire TV offerings in the fall.

Amazon’s Ring has been teasing for the past two years Ring Always Home Cam, a flying drone camera for home security. It hasn’t launched yet, so we’ll probably know when it’ll be available.

Here’s what it launched last year: Amazon had few surprises last year, so this year could be just as exciting. Amazon has launched its Astro home robot, which is still available by invitation only. It also announced its first smart thermostat, its first Amazon-branded TV, the Echo Show 15 and a new Halo View fitness tracker.

Here’s what to expect: Meta, formerly Facebook, may have a new virtual reality headset on deck.

Bloomberg In July it was stated that Meta was preparing to release the Meta Quest Pro virtual reality series later this year. It will reportedly cost more than $1,000 and will have a better screen, improved cameras, and support for improved graphics.

Meta’s Quest 2 headset is the most popular headset on the market today. As other players join the race to develop the so-called Metaverse, Facebook’s parent company will need to keep pushing its hardware to stay ahead. It may want to launch something ahead of Apple’s plans.

Here’s what it launched last year: Last September, Facebook released an updated Portal video-calling device. It hasn’t released a new version of Oculus devices since September 2020.
