Democratic Rep. Gordon ‘not a moderate’

Lewiston, Maine — Former Rep. Bruce Polikin (R-ME) is campaigning in Maine’s sprawling rural 2nd Congressional District, and he wants an economy-focused agenda to align with the region’s working-class and older People resonate.

Breitbart News observed that Poliquin visited Lewiston residents over the weekend and discussed the impact of inflation with them.

“How do you pay for all this?” Polikin stood on a side street, calculating the cost of groceries, gas, heating oil and electricity.

“Things have to change,” she said, noting that she plans to vote for Poliquin.

Poliquin wants to oust Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME), one of a handful of Democrats representing red-leaning districts won by former President Donald Trump in 2020.

Polikin faces the challenge of convincing voters that he should replace Golden, a former Marine who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan, who has sometimes defected to his party and voted with the Republican Party.

When asked if Gordon’s moderate reputation was cause for concern, Polikin replied: “He’s not a moderate.”

“He sells himself that way, but moderates aren’t going to be involved in spending trillions or trillions of dollars in printing or borrowing to drive inflation up,” Polikin said. “Moderates don’t do that.”

Golden vote According to an analysis by FiveThirtyEight, 84% of the time it fits with President Joe Biden’s agenda.he vote Along with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), he’s an outspoken member of the party’s far left 89 percent of the time, Pro Publica found.

If Biden and his massive multi-trillion-dollar spending plan are to blame for 40 years of high inflation – many economists contend They are — Golden and then share some of the blame based on his voting record.

Golden is the only Democrat to vote against $1.9 trillion The US Rescue Plan Act and the $1.7 trillion Build Back Better Act.But Maine Democrats still vote In November 2021, support the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, a so-called $1.2 trillion infrastructure plan that includes several racial and gender provisions and others that go far beyond the traditional definition of infrastructure. project.

republicans broad criticize Described as a “Green New Deal Lite,” the bill allocates only an estimated $110 billion for roads and bridges and other common infrastructure projects, and slams individual lawmakers’ pet projects buried in the lengthy bill.

Congressional Budget Office expected The infrastructure plan would add a net $256 billion to the federal deficit over a decade.

Golden also cast other votes that could prove to be paying off among his constituents. He has repeatedly contradicted his party on gun control measures. He twice voted against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) as Speaker of the House. During Trump’s first round of impeachment, he voted for only one of two articles of impeachment against former President Donald Trump.

This New York Times Observed after split impeachment vote, Golden adventure Therefore, the parties “double rebound”.

“For me, it can be a lonely place in Washington,” Golden told era then. “But it’s not a lonely place for me in Maine and my area.”

House Democrats also passed two major immigration bills last year, the Farm Workforce Modernization Act and the American Dream and Promise Act, which pardon millions of illegal immigrants in the form of green cards and citizenship pathways, respectively. The bills are designed to incentivize many immigrants who want to cross the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.

Golden was the only Democrat to vote against the green card bill, but he voted for the citizenship bill.

“Moderates won’t let us be forgotten and cause inflation, and moderates won’t let our borders open, in fact, for two years,” Polikin said. “It’s a very extreme position and it creates all kinds of hardships in Maine because we’re seeing these overdose deaths in the record here. So Jared Golden at 80% Vote for Biden, Pelosi and AOC above. He’s not a moderate.”

Last fall, Golden also voted with Democrats for an extreme abortion bill, the Women’s Health Protection Act, that would bring late-term abortion into federal law and remove state abortion restrictions. The measure failed this year in the Senate, where no Republicans voted in favor and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), often seen as a centrist like Golden, also voted against.

“You know what we’re in right now is we need leadership in the Second District,” state Rep. Josh Morris told Breitbart News. Morris, the Republican representing Turner, went to high school with Golden.

“You need someone who understands job creation, someone who understands issues like inflation, gas prices and how that affects Second District businesses, and Bruce Polikin knows that,” Morris said. “He’s done that before. Four years, and Jared Golden, frankly, I don’t think he’s the leader we need.”

Poliquin, who served two terms before narrowly losing to Golden in a ranked-choice vote in 2019, said the primary driver of his quest for re-election this year was “making sure our seniors are safe.”

Maine has the largest elderly population in the nation, according to census data compile by PRB.

“It’s not Arizona, it’s not Florida. The oldest average age in the country is Maine, and we have about a third of our seniors [who] There’s only Social Security, so we have a lot of fixed income people with no savings who can’t afford heating oil. They can’t afford gas in the car,” Polikin said.

Poliquin’s 94-year-old mother, who lives in a nearby nursing home, said: “We have about four hundred small towns and plantations, very small communities, and a lot of older people, and my passion is to help them because they don’t have you without you. The service you can get when you’re in Lewiston, Portland, or Bangor…and all of those people won’t be able to stay warm this winter.”

Poliquin added: “So there is no need to do that. [Democrats] caused this problem. Jared Golden is part of that. “
