Why Meta is expanding NFT support to 100+ countries

Meta CEO and Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg announced the expansion of its non-fungible token (NFT) capabilities for Instagram. Deployed on May 10, 2022, this enables users to showcase their digital collectibles on social media.

The feature will be available in more than 100 countries for users in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas. This will enable content creators to “take advantage of new tools to earn income” and connect with their followers in innovative ways. Official update.

The Zuckerberg-led company also announced that they will support connections to Coinbase Wallet and Dapper Wallet as well as integration with the Flow blockchain. The latter celebrated the news via their official Twitter account.

NFT functionality is already compatible with MetaMask, Trust Wallet and other crypto wallet service providers. As a result, users can connect for free to Ethereum (the most used blockchain for NFTs) and its second layer scalability solution Polygon and now the Flow blockchain.

Will NFT collectibles change the social media experience?

The NFT feature on Instagram will allow content creators to tag other users and automatically give them credit for collaborating. Digital assets on the platform will have distinct features, such as a shimmer effect with options to display additional information, as shown in the image below.

In addition to Ethereum, Polygon, and Flow, these features will be integrated with Solana-based NFTs in the coming months. Additionally, Meta is working on adding new wallets and Phantom wallets for future integrations.

The Zuckerberg-led company added the following regarding their efforts to provide users with access to the crypto space:
