BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — The family of Kyle Busch, a two-time NASCAR champion, escaped safely from the Mall of America in suburban Minneapolis after someone shot him .
Bloomington police said no one appeared to be injured and they were still looking for the suspect after securing the scene by 6 p.m. Thursday. Police said two groups of people inside the mall had an altercation at a store and one group left, but someone in that group fired three shots.
A video posted on Twitter showed Bush walking out of the chaos holding hands with his son Braxton.
Busch’s wife Samantha posted a video on her Instagram Story showing their son winning a youth racing event on Wednesday and riding a roller coaster with her husband on Thursday, before offering a thought-provoking update after the shooting .
“If you see news about @mallofamerica, we are safe,” she posted. “Pray the others in there too.”
Kyle Busch, the 2015 and 2019 champion and 60-race Pro Cup winner, is scheduled to drive the No. 18 Toyota at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday.
