Sam Heughan: ‘Outlander’ Prequel ‘Better Not Better Than Our Show’

“Outlander” star Sam Heughan weighed in on the recently announced prequel series “My Blood” in an interview with Insider earlier this year — and joked that while he’s excited about the upcoming spinoff, it’s “best” Don’t get better” than the original.

“I know it’s in the making and I’m super excited for Diana [Gabaldon, author of the “Outlander” novels]also for all stars,” Heughan said.

When Insider spoke to Heughan in March, it was reported that the prequel series was in the works, but it had not been officially confirmed that it was in development. Starz announced Thursday that the show, titled “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” will continue to move forward on the network.

Heughan, who played Jamie Fraser in the steamy Starz series with Caitriona Balfe as his wife for six seasons, also joked about whether he’ll be in the new show, which will focus on Jamie’s parents, Ellen and Boo. Ryan Fraser.

“I wanted to see that story for myself, and I thought, ‘Am I in this? Am I not in this? Do I have to play a younger version of myself?'” Heughan said of the planned prequel in March .

“I can’t wait to see it,” the actor told Insider, adding jokingly: “It better not be better than our show.”

According to a Starz press release, the writing of “Blood of My Blood” is already underway. “Outlander” host and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts will also serve as host and EP for the upcoming show, while Gabaldon will serve as a consultant producer. The seventh season of “Outlander” is Currently in production.
