Blue Jays put Springer on injured list with elbow inflammation

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Toronto Blue Jays placed All-Star outfielder George Springer on the 10-day injured list ahead of Saturday night’s game in Minnesota with an inflamed right elbow.

Springer has been plagued with elbows for much of the summer. He plans to receive anti-inflammatory injections this weekend to help heal. Springer, who missed four of the first five games with injury, went 1-4 against the Twins on Thursday night.

Springer will be eligible to return on August 15. The four-time All-Star was Toronto’s leading center fielder, hitting .251 with 18 homers and 49 RBIs in 89 games. Coming into the game Saturday, he is tied for 10th in the AL with 59 points.

The 32-year-old is in the second season of a six-year deal worth $150 million. He only played 78 games last season due to limb and ankle injuries.
