French Interior Minister Gerald Dalmanin has slammed members of the far-left party Insumis France, accusing them of defending a radical Islamist imam who will be expelled from France.
Minister Dalmanin, who announced the expulsion of radical Moroccan imam Hassan Iquiusin last week, slammed members of France Insoumise (LFI), accusing them of defending the imam and trying to prevent his deportation.
“This gentleman has nothing to do with national territory, and they can defend him in the sense of freedom of speech, which tells me about the state of intellectual decomposition of the far-left LFI at this point,” Dalmanin Tell On Thursday, broadcaster CNews.
Since the announcement of the expulsion of the radical imam, Darmanin has been criticized by LFI members in the French parliament, including MP David Guiraud, who said: “These questionable procedures must challenge all democrats concerned with upholding the rule of law.”

Another LFI MP, Manuel Bompard, argued that while the imam reportedly made anti-Semitic and homophobic remarks, he should be tried by a French court: “It is not up to the interior minister to arbitrarily decide which remarks are acceptable or not. “
Dalmanin hit back at the lawmakers’ criticism, saying only about 20 of France’s 2,600 mosques support Imam Iquiusin. He called the LFI to kick David Guiraud out, arguing his remarks were reflected on the rest of the party.
Since becoming interior minister in 2020, Dalmanin has been fighting the spread of radical Islam and was involved in closing several radical mosques, notably the October 2020 beheading of teacher Samuel M. After Samuel Paty.
More recently, Dalmanin has turned his attention to deporting foreign criminals, and last month advocated reforming deportation laws to allow French authorities to deport more foreign-born criminals for serious crimes.
