William Saliba made one of the best debuts in Premier League history as Arsenal started their new journey with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on Friday night.
Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Mark Gay headed in and Bukayo Saka’s cross sealed the three points five minutes later.
New signings Aleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus both made their debuts after joining Arsenal from Manchester City in the summer.
But the most impressive is Saliba, who was brought in from Saint-Etienne for £27m in 2019.
The 21-year-old had never played a minute for the Gunners before the game against Crystal Palace, having spent the past three seasons on loan back to his native France.
However, you wouldn’t know that he showed maturity against Crystal Palace, where he really looked like a new signing.
He plays at centre-back alongside Gabriel Magalhães and has been incredible whenever Crystal Palace poses a threat – with 100% of receptions, 100% of aerial duels, 94% of passes Ball accuracy, 7 ball recoveries and 6 clearances to complete the game.
He didn’t commit a single foul either, but produced a very clean tackle inside the box in the second half to thwart Wilfried Zaha.
