9 injured in Cincinnati mass shooting, police searching for suspect

Police are searching for at least two suspects after a mass shooting in downtown Cincinnati in the early hours of Sunday left nine people injured.

Lt. Col. Mike John of the Cincinnati Police Department said at a news conference Sunday that officers were called to Main Street downtown in response to reports of the chaos.

John told reporters that as police cleared the crowd, the two groups began to fight and at least two of those involved in the fight drew their guns and opened fire on the crowd.

A police officer opened fire on one of the gunmen who fled the scene. A second, unidentified suspect then fired more shots, John said.

A total of 8 men and 1 woman, aged 23 to 47, were non-life threatening. Police are asking anyone with information on the suspect to contact police.

Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval called Sunday’s gun violence “an absolute tragedy.”

“What happened last night is totally unacceptable,” Preval said. “The gun violence we are seeing in our communities cannot and will not continue.”
