This is the end of the CBS broadcast era.
After 16 years of wearing headphones for the web, Sir Nick Faldo says goodbye from the stand in the final round 2022 Wyndham Championship Sunday at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The six-time Grand Slam champion has a rich history at Sedgefield, dating back to his PGA Tour debut at the 1979 Grand Greensboro Open, his ninth on the club’s Wall of Fame. A plaque was obtained behind the ridge, where he joined the likes of Charlie Seaford and Arnold Palmer.
“I screwed up,” Faldo said tearfully in his last paragraph Before briefly sorting yourself out on the air. “I was on a boat in Ireland and they called me and said, ‘Would you like to sit next to Jim Nantz?’ “I literally fell off the boat and I really did. It was 2006 and we are here 16 years later. “
“Thank you to all the staff,” he continued. “When I call you workers graciously and respectfully, they put pictures out, we do rattles, and our jobs are easy. Thank you all.”
“I’m an only child and I found three brothers at 65. Thanks,” he said, referring to Nantz, Ian Baker-Finch and Frank Nobiro, who joined him in the final round of the booth participated in the game together. “I’m ready.”
The broadcast also featured messages from Faldo’s former and current colleagues on and off the golf course, and was sometimes very emotional. So much so that Dottie Pepper joked at one point: “Can you call this or do you want me to answer?”
