This is the end of the CBS broadcast era.
After 16 years of wearing headphones for the web, Sir Nick Faldo says goodbye from the stand in the final round 2022 Wyndham Championship Sunday at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The six-time Grand Slam champion has a rich history at Sedgefield, dating back to his PGA Tour debut at the 1979 Grand Greensboro Open, his ninth on the club’s Wall of Fame. A plaque was obtained behind the ridge, where he joined the likes of Charlie Seaford and Arnold Palmer.
“I screwed up,” Faldo said tearfully in his last paragraph Before briefly sorting yourself out on the air. “I was on a boat in Ireland and they called me and said, ‘Would you like to sit next to Jim Nantz?’ “I literally fell off the boat and I really did. It was 2006 and we are here 16 years later. “
“Thank you to all the staff,” he continued. “When I call you workers graciously and respectfully, they put pictures out, we do rattles, and our jobs are easy. Thank you all.”
“I’m an only child and I found three brothers at 65. Thanks,” he said, referring to Nantz, Ian Baker-Finch and Frank Nobiro, who joined him in the final round of the booth participated in the game together. “I’m ready.”
The broadcast also featured messages from Faldo’s former and current colleagues on and off the golf course, and was sometimes very emotional. So much so that Dottie Pepper joked at one point: “Can you call this or do you want me to answer?”
Here’s how the golf world is honoring Sir Nick Faldo’s broadcast retirement.

“I’m going to give a big shout out to my good friend Sir Nick Faldo who is getting ready to start his last broadcast on CBS. I was lucky enough to meet Sir Nick when I was 15. He put me under his wing , he’s been a mentor to me throughout my career, starting on the European Tour and then on the PGA Tour. He did the same when I started broadcasting. So Nick, thank you so much for what you did for me Everything. As lead analyst, I think of you every time I sit in this chair. I can’t wait to visit you and Lindsay at Faldo Farms. Thanks, friends.”

“Nick, not everyone has a career like you, pro, golf and TV. Your record speaks for itself. To really understand Nick Faldo, you have to look the other way. If you look at your broadcasting career, you Be bold enough to show everyone what you really feel inside, including ourselves. You’re not afraid to do it. It’s also important that you’re strong enough not to expose them when golfing. So I just want to Say, as a broadcaster, as a golfer, but more importantly as a friend, thank you man.”

“Well Nick, you have the opportunity to document the people, places and stories you do with humor and humility and a human touch. And I think it’s fair to say that you let us as a broadcaster see inside you , that’s a lot more than we see your stoicism as a player. May the sands of time be nice to you, my friend.”

“You have taught me so much and I am grateful for that. I am honored to have my name sandwiched between yours on the Claret Jug, ’90-’91-’92, I have been watching with great pleasure It. Over the past 20 years, we’ve worked together many times in different towers around the world, the last 16 years at CBS. It’s been such a great honor and sad to see you leave, like all of us Same here. Well, old boy, maybe we have a chance to partner up on the Gallatin River in Montana and use fly rods instead of golf clubs.”
