The FBI arrested a man in Ohio on suspicion of shooting and killing four people last week after a multi-state manhunt.
Laura McCabe, a spokeswoman for the Lawrence Police Department, said Sunday that the suspect, Stephen A Marlow, was arrested near 23rd Street in Lawrence just before 9 p.m. Saturday.
Mr. Marlowe was charged with killing four people near the town of Butler early Friday, officials said.
Confirming the multi-state manhunt, Ms McCabe said: “Clear multi-agency communication at the national and regional level followed by active teamwork in our patrol unit and ultimately a vigilante culmination of a successful arrest a policeman.”
The 39-year-old suspect in the four-person murder is believed to be in Lawrence by task force duty officers, the spokesman added.
“Inspectors initiated a city-wide search. A duty officer observed a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle heading east on W.23rd from Ousdahl Rd and relayed information,” the statement added.
The vehicle Mr. Marlowe was seen turned into a parking lot near 23rd Street. After he got out of the car, he was taken into safe custody, officials said.
The police department added that an outside agency, not their task force, was conducting the investigation.
In a statement, the Butler Township Police Department said Ohio Township police found multiple crime scenes and four people were shot when they arrived at Hardwick Square and Haver Straw Avenue just before noon Friday.
The four – identified as Clyde Knox, Eva Knox, Sarah Anderson and Kayla Anderson – were pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect is believed to have fled the area in a white 2007 Ford Edge SUV with Ohio license plates, the FBI said.
A video showing the suspect has appeared on the Internet, according to the Butler Township Police Department.
“Our investigators have determined that this video was released sometime after yesterday’s incident. We understand the ideas and language in the video are startling, which is why our investigators are working around the clock to secure Mr Marlowe detained,” the police official said.
He was charged with four counts of aggravated murder in Montgomery County, Ohio, and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Mr Marlow also faces charges of flying illegally to avoid prosecution.
